FURNITURE RESTORER MELBOURNE

In the late 1970's Paul and his family settled in Australia after arriving from the UK and began to re-establish themselves in the antique trade and set up an antique shop in Canterbury, Victoria.

Paul learnt his craft of furniture restoration using traditional european methods from an elderly Italian craftsman who specialised in colour staining, inlay work and hand french polishing.  Paul's father had a vaste knowledge of general antiques and was himself a skilled furniture restorer specializing in veneer and inlay repairs.

The family antique retail business flourished and it was decided that they would begin shipping containers of antiques from the UK to Australia and thus eventually began a successful antique auction room.

With 40 years experience in handling some of the most unique and interesting antiques and collectables through his association within the auction room and antique retail industries and with his knowledge of furniture restoration, Paul has gained appreciation of different furniture styles and has extended his expertise in furniture restoration to apply to Danish furniture styles such as Chiswell, Fleur and Danish Deluxe and also to include modern timber furniture.

Paul as worked on architectural projects restoring timber staircases, wood panelling and built-in bookcases unique to period and Art Deco homes.

PINE KITCHEN TABLE
This table is constructed from pine floorboards taken from an old Queenslander house.
The table top was badly stained and water marked and exposed seams between the planks. The seams were filled, the table top stripped off stains and re-polished in satin finish oil.

PAQUETRY TOP DINING TABLE
From years of use, the existing lacquer finish had worn off.  The remaining lacquer finish was removed and re-polished in matt finish oil.
